Robert briefed the club members and guests on the current operations of the MONTCO Toll Road. The Toll Road is 3.4 miles long and is entirely within MONTCO. In 2023 it had over 7 million transactions and 60% of the users reside outside of MONTCO. The traffic load is well in excess of the original predictions which means revenues are also above predictions. After debt and operational expenses are paid the excess is being invested in the design and right-of-way acquisitions of some 15 new road projects. Once that is complete, TXDOT will step in and construct the roadway. This novel approach by Commissioner Riley has accelerated the construction of much needed roads.
Commissioner Riley also discussed the cleanup efforts as a result of hurricane Beryl which are projected to cost the county more than $14 million - many times the cost of hurricane Ike.
