Rotary District 5910's Governor for the Rotary year '24-'25 makes his official visit to our club

The Magnolia Rotary Club, in partnership with the Lake Creek Greenway Partnership, announces its 2024 Fundraiser project to take place on Saturday November 9th from 11am to 3pm at the Magnolia ISD Event Center.  Funds raised go to sponsoring high school students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) and the Lone Star College Student Fund.

Mayor "Doc" Dantzer, the newly elected Mayor of Magnolia and Rachel Steele, Magnolia Economic Development Coordinator briefed the club members and guests on the happenings in Magnolia.

Tiffany Nelson and her husband the Reverend Jason Nelson, described the programs they offer assisting Wounded Warriors [Military & First Responders] recovery from various psychological wounds.  They are a part of a nationwide organization working with thousands every year.

Barbara Gardner, Owner of  Old Homestead Realty here in Magnolia brought our members up to date on the state of the real estate industry here in Magnolia.  She addressed the many issues including interest rates, lack of properties on the market and the proliferation of development in our area.  Barbara is a long time resident of Magnolia and has always been involved in our community.  She currently serves as a Director on the Board for the Magnolia Community Development Corporation.  She and her husband Paul live just north of Magnolia on their horse ranch.

               The Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport near Conroe has developed into a major general aviation airport with a “National” rating, Airport Director James Brown told members of the Magnolia Rotary Club on Nov. 14.  

Mr. Bobby Chapman, Rotary District 5910's incoming Rotary Foundation Chair brought the members and guests up to date on the impact the Foundation is having on local communities and around the world.  The Foundation provided some $333 M in grants for world wide sustainable projects that fight disease, (especially Polio), promote peace. provide clean water and sanitation, education, maternal health, small businesses, and the environment.

Brandon Thomas, Branch Manager of Prosperity Bank here in Magnolia is welcomed into the club by our Membership Chairman Ted Cummings.

Anna & Lizzy gave a presentation on the history, vision and future plans for the Tomball/Magnolia Community Impact Newspaper to our club on 24 October at the MISD Event Center.

Robert presentation was "The Inflation Reduction Act is the biggest climate bill in US History".  He explained the technical basis for various clean energy sources and the Federal tax credits and/or rebates available for subsidizing the installation of solar cell, heat pumps and weatherizing you home as well as Electric Vehicles.

Ed brought the club up to date on the San Jacinto River Authority.

The Magnolia ISD recognized the Magnolia Rotary Club for its project to construct a Pollinator Garden at Magnolia High School earlier this year.  Its purpose was no only provide for local pollinators but an outdoor laboratory for the district's science department's teachers and students.  Educational materials for use by the science teachers and students was also provided.

Andy Knight a local beekeeper and owner of Magnolia Bee and Supply company gave an informative presentation of the habits and life cycle of  honey bees, their commercial value and problems affecting their survival.

Adriauna Davis discussed her personal experience and reason for starting the Harmonie Grace Foundation before reviewing national statistics related to the problems related to premature births. She also discussed the initiatives of the foundation and funding and other suppport needs. The organization is currently almost entirely self funded.

Nicole Miner discussed her organization's project in Kenya and the United State where they focussed on  improving nwomens health and finantial lityeracy in Kenya and Womens leadership skills in the United States

District Governor Demetress Harrell reviewed the district goals including an initiative focused on supporting pollinators. She also thanked us for our continued financial support of the Rotary International Foundation and noted that we had the highest per capita contribution in the district. She also handed out polio plus pins related to that campaign.

Briana Gallagher with the SJRA Flood Management Division reviewed current projects of the division and answered questions regarding their role relative to the county in flood plain management. 

Lisa Fenley, Director of The American Heart Association Montgomery County reviewed the status of heart disease in the US and Montgomery County as well as the major factors influencing it. The presentation also included actions the association is undertaking in Montgomery County and what we can do to mitigate risk.

On July 12, 2022 the Magnolia Rotary Club viewed a TED talk by Suzanne Simson titled “How Trees Talk to Each Other”. The presentation delved into the symbiotic relationship between trees and mycorrhizal fungi and how trees communicate to share food and other compounds during times of stress.

On June 28, 2022, Carl Gerhardt was honored as 2022 Rotarian of the Year for his service to our Community and leadership in The Rotary Club of Magnolia. At the 2018 Rotary District 5910 Mid Year Meeting on 2/3/2018, the Magnolia Rotary Club received the 1st Place (Number 1 Club in District 5910) award for the Annual Rotary Foundation Giving Per Capita. This is the 2nd year in a role that our Club has been given this award. The award is pictured above.

The Rotary Club of Magnolia regrets that it had to cancel its weekly meeting on 1/16/2018 but it was necessary for safety reasons. Our club hopes that everyone remained safe, warm and free of any sickness. We hope to be back next week if the weather warms up.

On Saturday, 11/04/2017, the Magnolia Rotary Club sponsored a "Rise Against Hunger" event where Rotarians and students from MHS, MWHS, THS, and Bear Branch Junior High managed to pack 10,152 meals in several hours that will be shipped to countries in need.
